How we treat keloids
Keloids are raised scars that grow beyond the original wound. Our main treatment is a steroid injection directly into the keloid, which reduces inflammation and slows the excess collagen that makes it grow. For some keloids we combine injections with laser.

Who Can Benefit from Keloid Treatment
- Raised, firm or itchy keloids on the ears, chest, shoulders or jaw

- Hypertrophic (raised) scars that have not flattened on their own
We postpone treatment during pregnancy, and with an active infection in the area.
Frequently asked questions about keloid treatment
Do keloid injections hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first, and most patients find the injection quick and tolerable.
How many injections will I need?
It depends on the size and age of the keloid. Most need a series of injections, and we review progress at each visit.
When is laser added?
When the keloid has flattened but still looks dark or red, or when the texture needs improving. Fotona laser calms redness and smooths the surface, and PicoWay laser lightens dark discolouration.
Can keloids come back?
Keloids can return, especially after new injury to the area. We give you aftercare advice and review you if it starts to grow again.
Can you treat ear keloids from piercings?
Yes, earlobe keloids are among the most common ones we treat.
