Who Can Benefit
Keloids stay red and active because of the blood vessels feeding them. Fotona’s Nd:YAG wavelength targets these vessels to reduce redness, itch and activity, and its Er:YAG wavelength gently smooths the scar surface. For most keloids it works best alongside steroid injections, which do most of the flattening. Our Keloid Treatment page explains the full approach.
- Red, itchy or growing keloids
- Raised scars from acne, piercings, surgery or injury
- Keloids being treated with injections that are still red
- Patients who want to soften and flatten a scar gradually
For brown or dark discolouration of a scar, PicoWay laser often helps.
We postpone treatment during pregnancy, or if the scar is infected or broken.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Fotona remove a keloid?
Not on its own. It reduces redness and activity and softens the scar, while steroid injections do most of the flattening.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually 3 to 5, spaced 4 weeks apart, planned around your injection schedule.
Can keloids come back?
Yes. Keloids can recur, especially on the chest, shoulders and earlobes. We plan follow-up visits to catch any regrowth early.
Fotona or PicoWay for keloids?
Fotona targets redness and blood vessels. PicoWay targets brown or dark discolouration. Some scars benefit from both.
Is there downtime?
Mild redness for a few hours.
Fotona laser also treats open pores, acne and acne scars, pigmentation and melasma, skin brightening, fine lines, non-surgical facelift (Fotona 4D) and spider veins.
